Many people think that a tan makes people more attractive. People can get tanned being outside in the sun; when they apply a bronzing creams or lotions on their body and use a tanning bed.
The advantage of a tanning bed is tanning that does not depend on the weather outside – rainy, stormy, snowy or sunny. Another advantage is the possibility to regulate the time you expose your body to rays.
There is a false statement that tanning beds are completely safe comparing with sun bathing. One should be careful while using a bed with artificial light during the process of tanning and should not forget about safety.
The safety of tanning beds depends on the type of artificial light applied in them. Some people are sure that the Ultra Violet (UV) lights that are applied in sun beds are healthier than sunlight. It does not completely correspond to the truth.
One can differentiate 2 types of ultra violet light such as UV-A and UV-B, besides they are also included in the sunlight outside. Nowadays people use sun beds with UV-A rays, in the past tanning machines were used with more dangerous UV-B rays that help the skin burn quickly.
Tanning beds with UV-A lights are not dangerous for the skin; they don’t lead to the skin’s burning, but it does not mean that the body’s exposure to UV-A rays can be as long as possible and is completely safe. It should be kept in mind that one should protect his eyes while using a sun bed. This rule is also for UV-A sun beds.
One should protect his or her eyes with eye goggles or sunglasses. The protection should be ensured with eyes’ shutting or putting pieces of cotton wool over the eyes. The wearing of eye goggles or sunglasses is nowadays obligatory in all sun bed salons.
It is always pleasant to have a look at people who are constantly tanned, even if it is winter or spring outside. But tan, got with tanning beds, has a disadvantage: the premature skin’s aging. The children’s skin is more prone to rays, it can be quickly burned and the negative effect of the rays is more obvious.
One should keep in mind that there are restrictions in the use of tanning beds. People who have such illnesses as cold sores, diabetes and lupus are recommended to ask their doctor for the permission to use tanning beds that can cause certain complications. Some medicines such as pills for birth control, tranquilizers or antihistamines can make the skin more susceptible to the rays. It is better to consult a doctor before using a tanning bed.
One should take precautions while using a tanning machine for getting a tan. It is strongly recommended to wear goggles and be careful not to get burnt.
